Counselling
The Counselling component aims to provide a service to families to:
- Promote improved family relationships;
- Work with parents to improve their confidence and enjoyment in parenting;
- Strengthen parent competencies;
- Enhance family well-being;
- Provide families with an understanding of developmental stages of children and adolescents;
- Support families through times of transition and change, such as divorce, access, death, unemployment, and stages of the family life cycle;
- Assist families in solving child related problems, such as sibling rivalry, attention seeking, and anger;
- Work with individuals who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused to enhance their self-esteem.
In-Home Support
The In-home component of Family Support assists and supports families to develop, maintain and enhance the well being of the family. This service takes place in the home at times that are convenient to and most productive for the family. Family Support is available to families with children 0 to 18 years who choose to take part in the program.
How Can Family Support Assist Families?
- Offer strategies and support for managing challenging childhood behaviors;
- Assist families organise their time and resources e.g. budgeting, household management;
- Emotional support;
- Integrating families with social supports within the community;
- Advocacy.
Family Support Aims:
- To strengthen and support the family unit;
- To assist families to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children;
- To develop self-sufficiency and enhance self-esteem;
- To assist in developing alternative parenting strategies.
Linkage and Case Management:
The linkage and case management component of Family Support aims to strengthen the capacity of families and communities to respond to need and risk in a solution focused way.
Family Workers work with the family, in the home, to help them identify their needs and their strengths. The worker then assists the family members to access the most appropriate service/s in order to enhance family functioning.
This program aims to:
- Assist families to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children;
- Assist families to develop and maintain independent problem solving skills;
- Assist families to identify needs and strengths;
- Encourage families to adopt healthy lifestyle choices;
- Assist families to develop creative alternatives;
- Facilitate the use of existing community supports and networks;
- Provide co-ordination and a case management service;
- Promote the development of self-esteem.
